This Week in Comedy: Aziz Ansari is back with a new Netflix special. The special, titled Nightclub Comedian, was taped at a surprise drop-in he did at the Comedy Cellar back in December. “I like doing nice theaters and everything,” Ansari says in the trailer. “But sometimes you have to come back and compete with chicken wings.” In the special, Ansari also tackles “Covid, the White House, and the virtues of flip phones.”
Also this week, Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Ilana Glazer, Ben Schwartz, Dave Franco, and Ike Barinholtz have a mystery to solve. The new Apple TV+ series The Afterparty “is a murder-mystery comedy set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each of the eight episodes will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.”
And finally, season two of the sci-fi comedy Resident Alien is back on the SyFy network. Resident Alien, which stars Alan Tudyk, follows “an alien crash lands on Earth and must pass himself off as small-town human doctor Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk). Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life…but things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world. Based on the Dark Horse comic.”
