This Week in Comedy: Bert Kreischer returns to Russia in “The Machine” movie

May 22, 2023      Andrew Buss      Bert Kreischer, News, Sebastian Maniscalco, This Week In Comedy

This week in comedy: Bert Kreischer is heading back to Russia in the movie The Machine. In theaters everywhere Friday, the action comedy film follows Kreischer and his dad – played by Mark Hammil – being summoned back to Russia after his infamous run-in with the mafia there while in college. The movie, naturally, is based on Kreischer’s infamous story.

Also this week, Sebastian Maniscalco has his own movie hitting theaters this weekend. About My Father follows a fictionalized version of Maniscalco and his dad, played by Robert De Niro. In the film, Maniscalco invites his father to his wealthy in-law’s house for a holiday weekend. As you can imagine, a culture clash ensues!

Plus, Smartless is making the jump from podcast to HBO Max. The popular podcast – which features Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes – hit the road last year for a live tour, and they had a documentary crew with them. The documentary, titled Smartless: On The Road, examines life on the road, and the close friendship of the three hosts.

Also, 20 years after it first premiered and lasted one season, the cult animated series Clone High is coming back. Created by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence, the show has built up a loyal following over the years, despite only lasting 13 episodes. The new reboot is bringing everybody back, including star Will Forte.

And finally, Sarah Silverman has a new stand-up special coming out on HBO. Someone You Love marks her return to HBO, where her last special in 2013 won her an Emmy. Filmed at the Wilbur Theater in Boston, this special is described as “showcasing her fearless chutzpah.”
