July 27, 2020 Andrew Buss Television, This Week In Comedy
This week in comedy: There’s three series making the big leap across the Atlantic. First up is Frayed. The British/Australian series follows a wealthy British housewife who is forced to return to Australia after the death of her husband. After revisiting her past and realizing that everybody basically hates her, she tries to move back to London, which proves to be more difficult than she expected. This series, which first premiered last fall, makes its U.S. debut on HBO Max.
Also this week, the coming of age dark comedy In My Skin sees it’s official American release after debuting on the BBC in 2018. The series follows a 16 year old teen who tries to make it seem as if she’s got a perfectly healthy home life, while masking her father’s alcoholism and her mother’s mental health issues. All 5 episodes are being released on Hulu.
Plus, we get a third series making the jump. Maxxx, which was originally scheduled for a June release before being rescheduled, stars and was created by O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale). The series sees Fagbenle as the star of a former boy band trying to revive his early success as an adult, with Christopher Meloni playing his manager. The series also drops on Hulu this week.
