This week in comedy: Class is back in session with “Mr. Iglesias”
June 15, 2020 Andrew Buss Television, This Week In Comedy
This week in comedy: Mr. Iglesias is back for part 2. Last year, Netflix brought us Mr. Iglesias, which stars Gabriel Iglesias as a high school teacher in Long Beach, California. He’s shown as being laid back and wanting to do all he can for his students. But judging from the trailer, it seems like things are going to kick into high gear a bit as he tries to do even more to help motivate the students. All we can say is we think having Gabriel Iglesias as a teacher in high school would’ve been a lot more fun!
Also this week, One Day at a Time, which got picked up by Pop TV for season four, has decided to turn one of the scripts for the series that never went into production due to the pandemic into an animated series. Guest stars for this special experiment include Lin Manuel-Miranda, Melissa Fumero, and Gloria Estefan.
Plus, this Sunday, Jason Sudeikis is bringing Tournament of Laughs to TBS. This is a comedy competition game show that finds some of your favorite comedians, all of whom were filmed remotely during quarantine, competing to find out once and for all who is in fact the funniest. Some of the names include Jim Norton, Natasha Leggero, Gilbert Gottfried, Jeff Ross, Margaret Cho, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Cameron Esposito, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Gina Yashere, Moske Kasher, Beth Stelling, plus many more.
