This Week in Comedy: Esther Povitsky and Yvonne Orji return home for their respective first stand-up specials
June 1, 2020 Andrew Buss Television, This Week In Comedy
This week in comedy: we have not just one but two debut hour long stand-up specials. Up first is Esther Povitsky with Esther Povitsky: Hot For My Name, which airs Friday on Comedy Central. The special goes beyond your standard debut special as, in addition to seeing Esther onstage, we also get a glimpse into her family dynamic that sort of speaks to who she is as a person as well as a comedian.
Next up is Yvonne Orji, who examines her Nigerian upbringing in Yvonne Orji: Momma, I Made It on HBO. We see her returning home to her roots, while also talking onstage about her “international haggling addiction and having her phone tapped by her parents as a kid, to the fine line between cursing people out and putting curses on them.“
Plus, Gina Brillon returns with her second hour long special with Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava, which is available on Amazon on Friday. In it, she talks about meeting her husband on a cruise, dating apps, and more. Be sure to check out our upcoming interviews with Brillon as well as Esther Povitsky coming soon.
