This Week in Comedy: The phrase everything old is new again has become synonymous with TV as of late. That is true of Hulu’s new series, How I Met Your Father, a re-imagining of How I Met Your Mother, which ran on CBS for 9 years. This version stars Hillary Duff, Chris Lowell, Daniel Augustin, Josh Peck, and Ashley Reyes, with Kim Cattrall serving as the narrator (played by the late Bob Saget in the original series).
Also this week, Moses Storm is coming to HBO Max with his first special. The special, Trash White, “Storm gets unflinchingly personal about his childhood spent dumpster diving in extreme poverty… despite looking like he was conceived at an Ivy League a cappella concert.” And he does so standing on a stage made up entirely of trash painted white.
Plus, Ed Helms and Randall Park have a new show, True Story with Ed and Randall. The premise is simple. They bring real people in to tell stories while a cast of celebrities reenact the stories. The celebrity cast of reenactors include Terry Crews, Adam Palley, Rob Riggle, Maz Jobrani, Lauren Ash, Paul Scheer, Fortune Feimster, Tawney Newsome, and more. Essentially, this looks like it’ll be Drunk History without the alcohol or historical elements.
And finally, speaking of alcohol, Single Drunk Female is a new comedy series premiering on Freeform created by Simone Finch (The Conners). In the new series, “Samantha Fink who, after a spectacularly embarrassing public breakdown, is forced to move back home with her overbearing mother to sober up and avoid jail time.” We’ve all been there, right?
