This Week in Comedy: Lee Daniels is rebooting “The Wonder Years”

This Week in Comedy: One of the most popular sitcoms of the 1980’s, The Wonder Years, is being rebooted by Lee Daniels. And while the reboot will also take place in the 1960’s, this time it will instead follow a black family living in Montgomery, Alabama. The show stars Dulé Hill, Laura Kariuki, and Saycon Sengbloh, with Don Cheadle taking on the role as the narrator. Most interestingly, the show’s original young star, Fred Savage, is on board as the executive producer.
Also this week, Fox’s Sunday night animation block is back with the season premieres of The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and The Great North. The Simpsons is even kicking this season off with a musical episode that is featuring Kristen Bell as the singing voice of Marge. (But will she do it in her own singing voice or as an impression of Julie Kavner, who voices Marge?).
Plus, Ahir Shah has a stand-up special coming out on HBO Max. In the trailer for the special, Dots, the British comedian – who has been making a name for himself in the U.K. over the last few years -, Shah talks about the phrase ‘Person of Color,’ his phone autocorrecting his name to ‘sh*t,’ and how people need to have opinions on everything these days.
And finally, The Conners is coming back for season four. In the season premiere, they’re offering up a gimmick of their own with the entire episode being broadcast live to both coasts. This is the second time they’ve done this, having done so previously in February of 2020.
