This week in comedy: It’s been over a decade since Nick Kroll had a new special. Despite all the work he’s done with Netflix, he never did a stand-up special with them. Now, Kroll has a new special out, Little Big Boy. In the special, Kroll talks about “getting his heart broken for the first time at the ripe age of 33, the power of mothers, his journey to fatherhood, and the trick to farting without making any noise.”
Also this week, Jena Friedman also has a new special on Peacock. In her new special, Ladykiller, Friedman “probes America’s obsession with (dead) women, finding humor in marriage, motherhood, and murder.” The special hits Peacock – which we’ve seen contributing more and more specials over the course of this year – on September 30th.
Plus, 90’s kids who grew up watching the flop-turned-cult film Hocus Pocus have been waiting for a new installment for 30 years. This week, they finally get their wish as Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are coming back as the Sanderson sisters. This time around, someone else lit the black flame candle, and three new kids have to stop the sisters the night before Halloween.
Also, Yvonne Orji is back with an all new stand-up special for HBO, A Whole Me. This marks the second time the Insecure star has had a special on HBO. In this new special, Orji talks about “the pandemic, estate planning, being the child of Nigerian immigrants and the brutal realities of dating.”
And finally, Ramy Youssef’s self-titled series is coming back for a third season. This time around in the acclaimed and award-winning Hulu series, “caught between a religious Muslim community who believes life is a moral test and a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife exists, Ramy and his family navigate spirituality in their politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood.”
