This week in comedy: “PEN15” Returns to Hulu

September 14, 2020      Andrew Buss      This Week In Comedy

This week in comedy: School is back in session. On Friday, Hulu is releasing season 2 of the unanimously critically acclaimed PEN15. The series, which is executive produced by The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, follows Maya and Anna (played by their real life counterparts) as they navigate their way through the seventh grade. The series is successful at being both funny while also reminding you why you are happy to not be in middle school.

Also this week, British comedian Michael McIntyre is getting his first Netflix special with Michael McIntyre: Showman. The special finds McIntyre talking about playing to audiences in America versus Britain, the suit he had tailored for himself, avoiding shark attacks in Australia, and nighttime habits for him and his wife. While he’s not such a big name here, we have a feeling this special will help change that. The stand-up special drops this Tuesday.

Plus, not exactly comedy per se, but there’s a huge list of funny people turning up in VOMO: Vote or Miss Out, airing tonight on ABC. The special features big name appearances from Larry David, Jon Hamm, Susie Essman, Michelle Obama, Will Ferrell, Amy Schumer, Tiffany Haddish, Scarlett Johansson, Jay Leno, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Tim Allen, Whitney Cummings, Cristela Alonzo, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor Larry Hogan, Ann Romney, Cindy McCain and somehow even more. The special will be hosted by Kevin Hart. And judging from the clip below of David, Hamm, and Essman talking about “lickable faces” there’s definitely going to be some humor to be had here.

Also this week, we begin to say goodbye to Tosh.0. After twelve seasons, having first launched back in 2009, Comedy Central announced that the show, hosted by Daniel Tosh, will be entering its final season. It came as a slight shock, as they had initially renewed the series for three additional seasons earlier this year. Nevertheless, you can catch the final season debuting on Comedy Central on Tuesday.

Larry David and Jon Hamm have a brilliant plan to save the U.S. Post Office so everyone can vote safely in this election. Don't miss out… watch #VOMO: Vote or Miss Out tomorrow at 10|9c on @abcnetwork. 🇺🇸 @whenweallvote pic.twitter.com/UGyYH8Vv0o
