This week in comedy: Sarah Cooper (probably sarcastically) reassures us that “Everything’s Fine”
October 26, 2020 Andrew Buss This Week In Comedy
This week in comedy: One of the breakout online stars of the pandemic, Sarah Cooper, is moving from TikTok to Netflix with her new variety special Everything’s Fine. In the special, she is joined by a roster of big name guests that includes Whoopi Goldberg, Maya Rudolph, Winona Ryder, Ben Stiller, Aubrey Plaza, Connie Chung, Danielle Brooks, Eddie Pepitone, Helen Mirren, Jane Lynch, Jonathan Van Ness, Jordan Black, Marcella Arguello, Tommy Davidson, Megan Thee Stallion, Jon Hamm, Marisa Tomei, and Fred Armisen. No word yet, however, as far as whether or not we can expect to see her now infamous Trump “impression”. Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine hits Netflix on Tuesday.
Also this week, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are teaming up together again in a new series titled Truth Seekers. According to the official synopsis, Truth Seekers “is a supernatural comedy series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see. However, as they stake out haunted churches, underground bunkers and abandoned hospitals with their array of homemade ghost-detecting gizmos, their supernatural experiences grow more frequent, more terrifying and even deadly, as they begin to uncover a conspiracy that could bring about Armageddon for the entire human race.” Seeing as it’s been a while now since we last saw the unlikely British duo sharing the screen together, we definitely are looking forward to this one!
Plus, Brian Posehn, Ron Funches, Matt Walsh, and Ali Kolbert want to see your secret videos. In a new TruTV series, Top Secret Videos, the comedians pose as “NSA Interns” and watch bizarre, embarrassing, and private videos (not unlike America’s Funniest Home Videos) and provide commentary on it. Top Secret Videos premieres this Thursday.
And finally, John Mulaney is returning for his fourth hosting appearance (and second time in 2020, having last hosted in early March) of Saturday Night Live. This has Mulaney only one appearance away from being a member of the Five Timers Club. And given that this is his fourth season in a row hosting and he’s quickly becoming one of the most reliable hosts in recent memory, we definitely don’t see this train stopping anytime soon.
