This Week in Comedy: Seth Rogen pulls double duty in An American Pickle. Originally slated for a theatrical release, the film was sold off to HBO Max and is coming out this week. The film finds Rogen playing an immigrant in New York getting frozen in time after an accident in a pickle factory. Fast forward to 100 years later, and he connects with his only living relative, his grandson (also played by Rogen). This is definitely one we’ve been excited for. An American Pickle comes out on August 6th.
Also this week, comedian and SNL writer Sam Jay is coming out with her first hour special on Netflix titled Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning. In the trailer for the special, Jay talks about traveling with her significant other, how you need a third arm to carry a third bag, and how a man always wants to come in to “save the day”. Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning drops on a Tuesday, August 4th.
Plus, Tim Minchin is bringing his critically acclaimed British/Australian series Upright to the states. The series follows Minchin as he plays a former musician stranded in the desert who, after a car crash with a 16 year-old girl, ventures throughout Australia with her and his piano in the back of the truck. Be sure to be on the lookout for our interview with Tim Minchin later this week. Upright premieres in the U.S. on Sundance Now.
