This Week in Comedy: Take a trip to The Great North with a new animated series on Fox. The show follows a family living in Alaska, and boasts a pretty stellar all star cast. Rounding out the cast is Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, Paul Rust, Aparna Nancherla, and Alanis Morissette, who plays herself. The show, which has already been picked up for a second season, premieres February 14th.
Also this week, if you’re looking for somewhere a little less cold to go visit than Alaska, Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo have got you covered in their new film. Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar follows two friends who live in the Midwest and go to Florida for their first ever vacation. While on vacation, they find themselves entangled in someone’s plot to kill everyone in town. Definitely an intense experience for first time travelers. Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar hits VOD on February 12th.
Plus, another new film is hitting VOD with Breaking News in Yuba County. The film finds Allison Janney as a woman living in a small town who falsely reports her husband as kidnapped, when he is actually dead. She in turn finds herself enjoying her newfound celebrity status a bit too much as a result of the news. The film boasts a pretty good sized cast that includes Allison Janey, Mila Kunis, Regina Hall, Awkwafina, Juliette Lewis, Wanda Sykes and Bridgette Everett.
And finally, John Oliver is back where we need him most, hosting Last Week Tonight on HBO. From the look of the trailer, which opens with Oliver literally blowing up 2020, season 8 will follow Oliver as he covers the Coronavirus, opens the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant, buys rare animated rat erotica from the 90’s, and Adam Driver calls Oliver out on “having some weird fun”.
