It’s been announced that Tiffany Haddish is joining Nicolas Cage in a bizarre and meta action comedy titled The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The film sees a cash-strapped fictionalization version of Cage agreeing to attend a billionaire’s birthday party for $1 million dollars. This billionaire turns out to be an infamous Mexican drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential hopeful. In turn, Cage now has to live up to the Nicolas Cage legend and basically channel his most popular, action-packed roles to save the day. And Haddish will play Vivian “an eccentric rogue government agent who forces superstar Nicolas Cage to go undercover in a crazy, off-book, last-ditch effort to bring one of the largest criminal organizations in Europe down for good,” writes The Hollywood Reporter.
Reports are that the film will feature nods to many of Cage’s previous films, like Gone in 60 Seconds, Leaving Las Vegas, Face-Off, and many more. It sounds like an intense Saturday Night Live sketch that might have been written by The Lonely Island (who has made no secret as to their love of all things Cage), infused with additional inspiration from Quentin Tarantino movies.
The film is actually written by Kevin Etten, with Tom Gormican on board to direct. Production is set to take place this fall. And as crazy as it sounds, it’s definitely something we cannot wait to see.
