Well, we already know that Tim Minchin can give one hell of an inspirational graduation speech. Now we’ll get to see what he’s like channeling the likes of Bill Murray. The Daily Mail reports that Minchin and Matthew Warchus, who wrote Roald Dahl’s Matilda musical, are working on a stage version of Groundhog Day, along with Danny Rubin, who wrote the screenplay.
It’ll be interesting to see how the 1993 comedy, in which Murray played a weatherman that had to relive the same day over and over again, will fare as a musical. Warchus told the paper that it will differ from the film. “It has to be something in it’s own right, not just a carbon copy,” he said. Matilda was a huge hit for Minchin and Warchus, raking in tons of awards, including five Tonys. He’s not sure whether or not the musical will debut in London or on Broadway, but the first workshop will take place this Spring.
