We think you should read this article. Few recent comedians have commanded such a strong following in such a short period of time as Tim Robinson. Ever since his sketch show, I Think You Should Leave premiered on Netflix in 2019, fans have been explosively adamant to tell anyone they could to immediately watch every single episode.
You know what? Those people are annoying… but they’re not wrong. The show is hilarious and a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of the exhausted tropes that come with current sketch comedy. It’s also exceedingly meme-able, which has only helped to grow the show’s popularity. The show excels at feeling bizarre and truly new, while also grounding itself in the type of guy we all know at least one of. Some people just want to eat sloppy steaks to make the night so much more fun.
If you hadn’t been following closely, it might appear Robinson rose up out of nowhere and abruptly disappeared. Fortunately, Robinson is not going anywhere. Andy Samberg’s upcoming animated show, Digman! will star Robinson and a slew of well-known comedy actors. These include Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Melissa Fumero and Mitra Jouhari, star and co-creator of Three Busy Debras, which was recently unexpectedly canceled.
Robinson has been working in a string of voiceover roles, I Think You Should Leave, was recently renewed for a third season/ But even if the average fan might feel like he came out of nowhere, in truth Robinson has been around a lot.
Robinson rose to prominence as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, although he made history as the first person originally hired solely as a performer to transfer to being only a writer. A few years later, he co-created the criminally underrated Comedy Central show Detroiters, which ran for a too-brief two seasons.
A lot of what we see on I Think You Should Leave comes out of proposed sketches that were shot down during Robinson’s time on SNL. It’s hard to know if SNL’s call was a good one. On the one hand, Robinson’s sketches are consistently hilarious but not fully aligned with the style or format SNL is known for.
Currently we can expect to see new I Think You Should Leave episodes in July of next year, so this announcement is probably the most we will be hearing from Robinson for a while.
