When news of Tracy Morgan’s tragic car accident hit the presses, many feared the legend would never return to the stage again. Defying expectations, Morgan made a triumphant return to the New York comedy club scene with surprise spots at both The Comedy Cellar and The Stand last night. After last month’s appearance at the Emmy’s, this development serves as a major milestone in his long road back to recovery. Morgan started Monday night by showing up at The Comedy Cellar unannounced, which prompted the following tweet:
“My first time on stage in 16 Months at the #ComedyCellar! Picking up the pieces!”
He also provided a picture of himself performing to his 3 million followers on Twitter. Lucky patrons were treated to a Morgan that explored the nature of his recovery, which included jokes about speech therapy. After his spot at The Comedy Cellar, the 46-year-old funny man made his way to The Stand where he continued to regain his stand-up prowess. The Stand tweeted the following:
“What an honor having @RealTracyMorgan back on ourstage tonight!”
Accompanying the tweet was a picture of Morgan with a mic in hand. These gigs come just before the comic’s return to Saturday Night Live this weekend (October 17th) as host.
