Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve caught wind of the recent split between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Since then, the relationship has devolved into increasingly aggressive behavior from West toward his ex and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, earning a banning from Saturday Night Live in the process. The TL;DR version can be summed up as nothing short of harassment from West. Additionally, as members of a this small comedy community, we’ve personally heard a few pretty terrible stories about West directed toward Davidson.
Trevor Noah recently weighed in on the situation on The Daily Show, framing his take from personal childhood experiences where is father was abusive to his mother. Spotlighting the all too familiar scenarios women face when trying to leave an abusive situation. Summing things up with a poignant statement that if one of the richest and powerful women on the planet can’t seem to escape abuse, what does that mean for the average woman?
Noah’s statements have not only struck a nerve with people but with West himself as the rapper has since taken to social media expressing his opinion about Noah that got him both suspended from Instagram and banned from the forthcoming Grammy Awards which Noah is scheduled to host.
Noah has since followed up this clip with a Tweet stating we should “council not cancel” West.
