Comedian and host of CNN’s United Shades of America, W. Kamau Bell, stopped by The Tonight Show to hype his new book, The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell. Well, actually, the book, a compilation of essays and stories inspired by and about Bell’s life as a multi-hypenate entertainer and cultural commentator, is fully titled The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell: Tales of a 6′ 4″, African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama’s Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian. There’s a lot going on there, but Bell shared a story about the very last category with Tonight Show host Fallon, about what it felt like opening for Dave Chappelle right after the actor / comic’s highly publicized exit from his Comedy Central show.
Bell’s book, full of more amazing stories from his varied careers, is out now.
