As everyone knows by now Elon Musk hosted Saturday Night Live last night. The decision to have the sometimes controversial Musk host lead to some in the cast becoming increasingly vocal over the decision on social media. But at the end of the day, nobody from the show’s cast wound up boycotting.
In his monologue, Musk surprisingly didn’t talk much about Dogecoin – a product he has become closely identified with -, aside from his mom asking whether he got it for her or not for Mother’s Day. On the show’s Weekend Update segment, however, Musk gave his legion of fans what they were waiting for.
Being introduced as Weekend Update’s financial analyst Lloyd Ostertag, Musk came out in a blazer, bow tie, and glasses, sitting behind the Update desk – a rarity for a guest host. He was brought out to explain cryptocurrency and Dogecoin, which he did in the vaguest terms. Che (and eventually Jost) kept responding with “Yeah, but what is Dogecoin?” Finally, Che asked “So, it’s a hustle?” “Yeah,” Musk joked with a laugh. “It’s a hustle.”
And ironically, the value of Dogecoin dropped significantly during Musk’s SNL appearance. But something tells us this won’t be the last we’ll be hearing of the internet phenomenon.
