It’s been a rough week for comedy, with the loss of Bob Saget on Sunday. But we can’t imagine how hard it’s been on his loved ones and close friends. Two of those friends, Jeff Ross and John Mayer, shared an emotional Instagram video on Wednesday.
In the 25 minute video posted to Mayer’s account, the pair revealed that they drove to LAX to retrieve the late comedian’s Prius. Saget had left the car there last week, and was supposed to fly home on Sunday, the same day he was found dead in an Orlando hotel room. The pair searched four floors of the parking garage for the car, before they found it right near the entrance. Ross revealed that the bill came out to $250, which he insisted on paying for, for Bob.
“I’ve never known a human being on this Earth who could give that much love, individually and completely, to that many people in a way that made each person feel like he was a main character in their life and they were a main character in his life,” Mayer recalled about Saget while driving down the 405 back to Saget’s house. He added “He had every excuse under the sun to be cynical, to be upset, to be distrusting. He had every reason to be the guy in the back of the bar, bitter. [Instead] he laughed and he spread joy, and his protest against the cruelty of these things was that he was going to smile and spread love and be childlike and be innocent and be loving.”
Ross similarly added that Saget “treated everyone like family. [He] really did take care of everybody. […] If you need a doctor, if you need a lawyer, if you need a pastrami sandwich at 3 in the morning because some girl just broke your heart, Bob was that guy. He loved making people happy. It didn’t matter who you were, your status … he somehow took his TV family and made them his real family, which is unheard of. There’s going to be something missing for a long time.”
