Watch John Mulaney join the Five Timers Club

February 28, 2022      Andrew Buss      John Mulaney, News, Saturday Night Live

On Saturday night, John Mulaney joined the ranks of Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, Christopher Walken, Drew Barrymore, Candice Bergen, and others. He became an official member of the Five Timer’s Club on SNL.

While usually the sketch – which has been done multiple times before – is performed during the monologue, this time around it happened at the show’s halfway point. Mulaney’s monologue was more focused on some new stand-up material. And it seemed like the show initially planned to have it be the cold open before they went with the classier route and featured a performance by the New York Ukrainian Choir.

This incarnation featured Steve Martin, Candice Bergen, Tina Fey, Elliot Gould, the newest inductee Paul Rudd (who sort of hosted back in December), and Conan O’Brien. O’Brien only hosted once, but he played the doorman in the first version of the sketch back in 1990. So perhaps he’s an honorary member.
