With award season just around the bend, the nominations are just starting to pour through. During an all-day musical event, the nominations for the 2015 Grammy Awards were announced today. In the category for “Best Comedy Album,” comedians “Weird Al” Yankovic, Jim Gaffigan, Louis C.K., Patton Oswalt, and Sarah Silverman fill out the ballot.
“Weird Al”‘s latest album, Mandatory Fun, making the ballot is the least surprising. The comedian did almost-impossibly, landing number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Mandatory Fun was the first comedy album in 51 years to earn that distinction. Gaffigan earns his second Grammy nomination for his latest album Obsessed, which was Comedy Central’s most watched comedy special of the year. Louis C.K. also earned his second nomination for his latest album, Oh My God. His previous album, Hilarious, earned the comedian his first Grammy nomination and win in 2012. Oswalt’s latest album, Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time, lands the comic his third Grammy nomination. Sarah Silverman earns her first nomination for her album We Are Miracles, just coming right off the heels of her WGA Award nomination.
The 2015 Grammy Awards will air on February 8th on CBS. No matter who wins, we can all be happy it isn’t Kathy Griffin.
