This is shaping up to be a big year to be Weird Al Yankovic. Later this fall, he will be the subject of a new biopic starring Daniel Radcliffe. Currently he is out on tour. And now, it’s been announced that his catalog of parody songs are getting the graphic novel treatment.
The Illustrated Al: The Songs of “Weird Al” Yankovic has been written by Al himself and will feature graphic interpretations of over 20 of his songs. Some of the artists bringing the songs to life include Bill Plympton, Aaron Augenblick, Peter Bagge, Wes Hargis, Jeff McClelland, and many more. The book will also feature a forward by Emo Phillips.
“It’s such an incredible honor to see my song lyrics brought to life by some of my all-time favorite cartoonists and illustrators,” Yankovic said of the book in press materials. “I’ve actually been playing the long game—the only reason I spent four decades in the music business is so that one day I could have my very own graphic novel.”
