Writers strike forces all late night shows to go dark

Breaking news: For weeks, there’s been talk of an impending writer’s strike and what that would mean for Hollywood. Tonight, that strike came to fruition as the Writers Guild failed to come to a deal with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers.
What this means for late night, naturally, is that all shows will be going dark. This will impact Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Daily Show. The fate of Last Week Tonight, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Saturday Night Live have yet to be decided upon. It is expected, however, that those shows will also be going dark.
This, of course, is not the first time we’ve seen this happen. Last time was in 2007-2008. The late night shows were dark from November until January. In January, the shows came back under restrictions. The Late Show with David Letterman was able to come back with its writers, due to a separate deal that Letterman made with the WGA. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien all returned without their writers.
It’ll be interesting to see if similar fates meet the late night shows this time around. Only time will tell…
