Last summer, Donald Glover kicked off a viral web campaign to get himself cast as the new Peter Parker for the Spider-Man movie reboots. They ultimately ended up going to Andrew Garfield but that didn’t stop the frenzied requests of many clamoring for the comedian to get a shot at the role, including great Photoshops like the one above betting made. Hell, Community’s first episode of season 2 depicted Glover climbing out of bed in Spider-Man pajamas, paying a homage to the pleas made over the summer.
Now with Wednesday’s release of a new comic book, Ultimate Fallout #4 we were introduced to Miles Morales, the world’s first half-black, half-Hispanic Spider-man. And according to the book’s author Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today that his choice was directly related to Glover’s push for the movie role. Crediting the Spidey pajamas in the Community season premiere last fall deserves “mucho credit” for the new hero. “I saw him in the costume and thought, ‘I would like to read that book.’ So I was glad I was writing that book.”
Glover caught wind of the news and responded.
