Five years ago, the final episode of “Arrested Development” aired

February 11, 2011      Matt      Arrested Development, Features, Lists, Television

On February 10th 2006 FOX aired the final episode of Arrested Development. I remember it well, it was Friday night and the last of 4 eps the network showed that evening. By then, they were just trying to burn the remaining canned episodes off… on a graveyard night… against the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.

And that’s how one of the greatest sitcoms ever came to an end. There was no fanfare. No clip show recapping all the great moments. Just a critically acclaimed show with unflattering ratings, aired in what seemed like the umpteenth different timeslot during a 3 season run. Left to “Maeby” slowly develop a cult status.

And develop, it did…

Five years, and the show is still talked about like it ended yesterday. Thousands of articles have been written about the genius of the actors, writers, directors, pretty much anyone associated with it. Many claimed it was before its time, had it aired today it would be a massive hit, never jumping the shark. Friends pledge other friends into the cult of Arrested Development through DVDs, Youtube clips, and their favorite quotes from their favorite characters.

It seems ever since the show’s cancellation rumors of a movie have been tossed around. While we can’t offer any more details as to if the movie will actually happen we can say this. On the 5-year anniversary of the show’s end, there are so many things we’ve learned from the show.

Here’s a small list to honor of what our favorite TV family taught us.
