Judd Apatow, the comedian and mega producer who helped put Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck onto the movie screen was the guest on the Opie with Jim Norton show and was asked about his take on Amy’s recent accusations of joke thievery.
In addition to framing the situation as the cycle of celebrity worship, Apatow also put things into perspective from his own experiences. Stating that there’s not a comedian working today that hasn’t heard similar premises at clubs, parallel thinking is completely real and the entire tricky thing is something comedians are all “trying obsessively to avoid” writing the same jokes. Apatow added that Schumer is, “one of the greatest joke writers” he’s ever seen as she writes thousands and thousands of jokes. He also added something that many have stated in the past, all modern TV joke writing can basically be traced back to The Simpsons.
