Last night Jimmy Fallon hosted the 62 Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. He kicked off the night with a Springsteen musical intro that included the cast from Glee, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Betty White, Jane Lynch, Hurley, Joel McHale, Tim Gunn, and Randy Jackson (oh yeah Kate Gosselin was there too).
One thing that could have made this all better? Perhaps a Springsteen-eque knee slide where Fallon’s crotch ends up in the face of the camera? Or maybe Ricky Gervais?
Once the show got started some comedy awards were given out.
Best Comedy Series: Modern Family, ABC.
Beating out a 3-year streak by 30 Rock as the funniest show on television.
Best Actor, Comedy Series: Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory, CBS.
Bazinga!
Best Actress, Comedy Series: Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie, Showtime.
I guess this is a comedy show?
Best Supporting Actor, Comedy Series: Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family, ABC.
We thought that all of the cast being nominated in supporting roles would hurt all the MF votes but alas, it did not
Best Supporting Actress, Comedy Series: Jane Lynch, Glee, Fox.
We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again, Lynch’s Sue Sylvester IS this show. She has less time in screen than most of the other players but steals every scene she’s in.
Directing for a Comedy Series: Ryan Murphy, Glee, Fox.
It was a Modern Family/Glee night for comedy.
Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series: The Daily Show, Comedy Central.
Jon Stewart and his team bring it in again. For something like the 10th year in a row. Geeze Jon, let someone else win for once why don’tcha? This was a hotly contested category with the potential for Conan O’Brien to win an award for his short stint on The Tonight Show that might have netted one of the most dramatic stories and potential best acceptance speeches of the night. TDS also beat out the highly buzzed Betty White Episode of Saturday Night Live.
Best Writing for Comedy Series: Steven Levitan, Christopher Lloyd, Modern Family, ABC.
We’ve already been promised more of the same for season 2 of Modern Family. This is a situation where that is not a bad thing.
