Almost a year to the day he was first introduced, the wildly popular Saturday Night Live sketch starring Tom Hanks as David S. Pumpkins is set to have an animated special to celebrate Halloween. Hanks will provide the voice to the animated version of his character along with co-creators/writers Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan (plus Streeter Seidell) will also reprise their roles as the dancing skeletons. The story sets two children in a small town on Halloween as David S. Pumpkins and his skeleton dancers “show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way.” The animated series will be the first half hour of this weekend’s Halloween-themed Saturday Night Live.
And if you need a refresher on how funny and weird the sketch was check out the original. Oh and read a great oral history that Vulture has where they dive into the writing process with Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan, and Streeter Seidel.
Here’s a longer teaser from the show.
