As we’ve previously reported, FX will launch their brand new network, FXX on September 2nd. With the network split, new content is necessary and that’s where this story begins.
Today the network announced that Brand X With Russel Brand is cancelled. However, they aren’t getting out of the Russell Brand game though as they’re developing a sitcom based loosely on his life, Curb Your Enthusiasm style.
Perhaps more interesting is they also okayed the series launch of a new animated comedy series called Chozen. The show will feature Danny McBride, and his partners Jody Hill and David Gordon Green.
Chozen is about a white, gay rapper, who gained new skills after being released from prison. The rapper plans to use these new skills in a quest for redemption and domination. Grant Dekernion, who was the writer’s assistant on the newly cancelled Eastbound & Down, will write and rap for the series. Bobby Moynihan of Saturday Night Live will voice the main character. Along with Moynihan, Hannibal Buress, Michael Pena, Nick Swardson, and Method Man will join the cast. Chozen will premiere sometime in the first quarter of 2014.
FXX will launch with a Wednesday night block with hit shows such as; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, and Legit. Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell will also be featured as a daily late night show. Look out for other great shows that will make their network premiere on FXX.
